Hello!
My name is Katrina, but you can call me Kat. I moved to Canada from the Philippines in 2023, and ever since, life has taken a turn for the better. When I say “better,” I mean I’ve grown both professionally and personally. I’ve always been independent, but living abroad has been truly liberating. While I continue to fulfill my purpose, I also make sure to enjoy this beautiful thing called life.

During my previous post-secondary studies, I took a course called Instructional Media Resources. From what I remember, it covered both traditional and digital instructional materials for classroom use. It was helpful for me as a pre-service teacher at the time, although we didn’t get the chance to fully explore technology or discover the wide range of digital platforms available for teaching.
Once I began teaching, I discovered several platforms that helped make learning more enjoyable for my students. I used Kahoot, Blooket, and Quizizz to add fun and engagement to my lessons. I’ve taught both elementary and high school students, and both age groups showed genuine enjoyment during these activities.
When the pandemic hit, like the rest of the world, we were forced to transition to online learning. We became heavily dependent on Zoom and Google Classroom. After a year, the school I worked at adopted a Learning Management System called Vibal, which was later replaced by Gascloud. Padlet also became my go-to tool whenever we had activities that required brainstorming and interaction between teacher and student. It’s a digital wall that allows users to post notes, images, videos, and links. I also switched from PowerPoint to Canva for preparing presentations. These applications and platforms have made teaching more dynamic and accessible. Even now, I’m still eager to discover new tools that can make learning and teaching more fun.
My approach to blogging is a bit different from those who see it primarily as a way to connect with others. I understand its value—including what it can offer me—but I never considered blogging before because I’m not a fan of posting thoughts or comments on social media. I may be a reluctant blogger as I begin this journey, but I hope to find joy in the process. I constantly remind myself that it doesn’t have to be perfect—it just needs to be informative, heartfelt, and filled with warmth and love.

Thanks for sharing! Even though you say you are a reluctant vlogger, you have such a great writing voice. Don’t be afraid to lean into you strengths, your thoughts, opinions and ideas. As teachers, we never know how what we observe and know can help the next person. I am very excited to keep up with your journey, Kat!
Hello. Thank you for the encouragement. I really appreciate it! 🙂
