Hi everyone!
For my #LearningProject this semester, I’ve decided to dive into something I’ve always wanted to explore more deeply, cooking! More specifically, I’ll be taking my taste buds on a journey Around the World in Six Dishes, exploring traditional meals from six different countries over six weeks.
With a busy schedule balancing three university classes my 2 year old daughter and a part-time job, I needed something fun, meaningful, and flexible. Cooking allows me to be creative, learn hands-on, and spend quality time with my family. I’ll use a combination of online videos, blogs, written recipes, and my own trial-and-error in the kitchen to guide my learning.
My Plan:
Each week, I’ll choose one country and cook a traditional or iconic dish:
Italy – Homemade pasta & carbonara
Vietnam – Fresh spring rolls
Mexico – Traditional tacos and churros
India – Havent decided on one yet
Eritrea – Injera (fermented flatbread)
USA – Classic homemade burgers
I’ll document the process weekly through photos, reflections, and maybe even some how-to videos. I’ll share what works, what doesn’t, and how I adapt as I go. The focus isn’t on perfection, but on learning through experience, using open online resources and social media to support and share that learning.
Kyler, this is a great learning project! I love that you’ll gain some new cooking skills AND get the reward of eating delicious food along the way.
A number of years ago I was looking to make my own Indian food and started using The VahChef Youtube videos for recipes and tips. I love how entertaining he is and my recipes generally turned out pretty decent. Best of Luck!
Hi Kyler!
I am super excited to see your journey throughout this semester. I love how willing you are to explore and try new opportunities with cooking. Fresh Spring Rolls are one of my favorite foods to eat in the summer, which are super delicious and easy to make. I know you will love them yourself! You will have to tell us your ratings on the taste!
Good luck on your journey, thank you for sharing!
Hi Kyler!
I find it very neat that you will be exploring traditional meals from different country’s. Lefsa, a traditional Norwegian flatbread is one of my favorite foods to make during Christmas with my mom. I am excited to see how your cooking journey goes and all the new recipes and traditional dishes you will discover. Best of luck!
