Week Two

            So, week 2 was obviously way different from week one. Today I got to start my field placement with a kindergarten class and I just loved it. When the students got to the class, we greeted them in a different way. The students got to pick if they wanted a wave, fist bump, hug, dance, etc. I found that a really cool idea and that most kids want hugs.

            Today, our day was very fun. We started the day with circle time, songs for the days of the week, months and seasons. While we were talking about the seasons, we talked about the weather and how it looked outside, we also dressed the mimeo frog for the weather too. After all of that, we did a brain dance break and that was a lot of fun dancing with all the kids. We wounded down after that and started doing some jolly phonics. Then we had a snack, reading time and then recess. During reading time, I had 3 kids reading a singing book to me, the one little boy would not let me help them at all.   After recess, we tried to finish our jolly phonics that we didn’t finish. Mrs. Jackson does this thing called ‘belly breaths’ which is a time for the kids to relax and take deep breaths. The kids have learned ‘candle breaths’ and just normal ‘deep breaths’. They do the belly breaths to help the kids calm down and be in a good mindset for center time. For center time, the star student got to pick where she went first then she would one by one call up the students to put their name where they wanted to go. During center time, I walked around and talked to the kids and even got to play with some play-doh. I had one little boy draw me a picture of a puppy and he even wrote down all 5 letters they have learned so far in class. I sadly forgot my picture in the classroom.

            Outside of the kindergarten classroom, there is a bulletin board that mentions things that the school has either been donated or things the school was able to fundraise and get. A lot of things were simply, as in pencils, books, paper, etc. There were also tablets that have either been donated or fundraised. In the classroom, the teacher has a piece of paper that basically Is like a ‘contract’, she writes down all the responsibilities of the students and they write their name on it to say they understand. She has one for her morning class and one for her afternoon class. You can tell the school/community is all very close. Walking through the hallways, you see the staff talking to other staff, staff talking to students and students talking to other students. I looked out the window during the recess and I didn’t see one kid not playing with another kid.
