Week 8 – April 7/22
Looking back at the beginning of the semester to now, my thoughts on assessment are still close to the same. I now know more about assessments and different ways to assess, but I do still feel like I have a lot to learn still. When I first started this class, I really only knew formative and summative, but I did not know what different assessments went into those. I did not know that summative could be more than just a test. I thought formative was really just observation. During my three weeks, I got to use different types of assessments and I am happy I was able to play around and test different ones to see what I liked and what I didn’t as much. For my lesson though, I used a lot of observation and participation as it seemed to work best with most lessons.
For our final class, we talked more about assessments and even talked about the five lenses of data. I personally did not know about it so learning about it was great. It is something I want to learn more about so once this semester is over, I will be doing my own research on it as well as more assessment ideas. We marked other people’s assessment demos and I really enjoyed learning about other subjects and assessments they did. I marked quite a few people that did high school and that is very different for me as I was with grade one and prefer the younger grades. I did enjoy learning about what they did for these classes and how they marked them. I can not remember who it was, but they did a mental health unit with high school students and I believe that needs to be taught way more.
