Pre-Internship Lesson Plans

Week 1: October 19, 2023

In preparation for our first day in the classroom, Miss Matechuk asked my pre-internship partners and I to come up with an introduction activity to present to the class.  The three of us agreed on an “All About Me” activity to fill in some information about ourselves, and presented them to the class later that day.  After we showed the students’s our examples, we then gave them each their own template, and asked them to fill theirs in and to colour them once they were done.  This activity was done in two fifteen minute intervals in the afternoon, and all of the students were very proud of their work after they were completed.  It was a great activity to introduce ourselves to the students, and for us to get to know them a bit better as well.  Attached below is a copy of the “All About Me” template, and a picture of the grade ones completed sheets.

Week 2: October 25, 2023

I did not prepare a lesson plan for today, because my two pre-internship partners taught a lesson together.  Instead, I focused my energy into observing and participating in classroom management, as this was our PDP goal for this week.

Week 3: November 1, 2023

This week I was asked to create a thirty minute lesson plan based on initials.  To prepare to teach this subject I created individual initials work sheets for the students to fill in their names and initials, as most of them are still unsure how to spell their last names.  This way the personalized sheets helped to support the students, and allowed them to practice spelling out their last names.  I also created a work sheet example of my own to show and introduce the lesson to the class.  And lastly I created and printed out sheets with each students personal initials on them, so that they could colour them in and reinforce the idea of their initials.  Again, I created my own example initials sheet to show the class.  Attached below are my two example work sheets, and my written out lesson plan.

Week 4: November 8, 2023

Instead of teaching my own lesson plan for today, I was asked to lead the grade ones end of day routine.  Therefore, from 3:15-3:30 I was in charge of gathering the students, managing the classroom and keeping them on track, writing their daily agenda message on the board for them to copy down, double checking their messages in their agendas and then signing them, and ended the day with their “mountains and valleys” time.  This is the time where they all sit in a circle on their class carpet, and pass round a microphone to talk about their favourite part of the day, and their least favourite part of their day.  After this time was concluded, the students were asked to start getting dressed to go home, and then are later dismissed at 3:40.

Week 5: November 15, 2023

Today I taught a thirty minute gym class, where I introduced the games “freeze tag” and “crab soccer”.  Attached below is my lesson plan, detailing the rules of the above mentioned games.

Week 6: November 22, 2023

This week instead of creating a lesson plan, I was asked to lead the morning routine.  This involves welcoming the students into the classroom for the day, and then having them come to the carpet to do the morning slideshow – where we read a morning message, change the days date, practice skip counting, and go back to our desks once we’re done.  Once they’re back at their desks, they proceed to do their morning work, and I check their agendas.

Week 7: November 29, 2023

Today was our last day in our weekly pre-internship placements, and I created a patterns lesson plan to teach for their math class.  Attached below is my lesson plan and Miss Matechuk’s feedback.
