The Beginning

For my learning project I decided to learn crocheting. I have always thought crocheting seemed to be fun, and a mind easing and stress relieving activity. I have no prior knowledge on crocheting and I hope I will have the patience to learn. I have never tried crocheting before but I am excited to learn what it is all about and learn what different things I can make. I talked to one of my friends about crocheting since she loves it and she recommended I start with granny squares. I am not too sure what I want to create for a bigger project but I was thinking just to start small and make a pot holder as my first creation. As I get more comfortable with crocheting, I am hoping to start making something bigger such as a baby blanket.

Since I am a beginner, I will be focusing on the beginner stitches. My goal is to learn the basic stitches and put them to the test. I will learn these by watching step by step youtube videos. I am planning on mainly using youtube videos as my way of learning how to crochet but I may expand to different websites depending how I am grasping on to the concept of crocheting. As I have been researching crocheting I have already discovered the many different weights of yarn and different hook sizes. I will have to determine which ones will work best for me.

I will also be getting some of my inspiration off of Pinterest to help guide me.

I have high hopes for this learning journey and am excited to see what all I can do by the end of it!

    Hey Payton,
I am also learning crocheting for my learning project and I am excited to see how our journeys differ and stay similar. I too am going to learn the basic stitches, and then evolve into larger projects. I am excited to pick the colour of my yarn, what colour are you going to pick?

Hi Grace! That’s exciting that you are also learning crocheting. It is harder then I expected it to be but I am excited to see what I learn throughout my process. I have started with a light blue color but I think I am going to use another color as well so I can stitch the two colors of granny squares together once I get enough made!

    Hi Payton!
Thank you for sharing your journey. I am excited for you to learn how to crochet. In another semester, I learned how to crochet for a project, and I loved it. This lady I learned from on TikTok, her creator name is “Ladaknotts”. She shows the basics to basics of crocheting to making materials such as plant holders. I recommend you check her out for a week! I agree with your friend, crocheting is not only fun, but it’s very calming.

I can’t wait to see how your work turns out. Best of luck!

Hi Kadie! That’s cool that you have learned how to crochet in another semester! I will have to check out that TikTok creator next week! Thank you for letting me know! I’m excited to see my progress throughout my crocheting journey

Hi Payton, so happy to see you try something new! I think the pot holder is a wonderful first project to focus on, if you wanted to advance it afterwards you could make a bowl cozy for when you have soup in a hot bowl! I did bead work for one of my outdoor ed assignments and my fingers tensed up so much so i have much respect for you and your crochet journey since I would probably quit after one project lol. Can’t wait to check in and see the progress!!

Hi Peyton! I love you choice for this project. I will definitely follow along to see the creations you end up with. I definitely recommend looking at Pinterest and Tiktok. There’s tons of useful content on there and really good ideas. I’ve seen lots of really cool and unique things on there like crocheted dresses, stuffed animals, butterfly shirts, etc.
