Week 4: Feeling Better & Moving More

After feeling like a zombie last week thanks to that wicked sinus infection, I’m finally feeling like a human again – and I was actually looking forward to moving my body this week. That said, I knew better than go hard right off the start. I wanted to amp up my fitness routine, but also give myself a bit of grace and ease into things at the start of the week.

This Week’s Tech Tool

Since I was easing back in, I decided to try incorporating some quick and easy home workouts a couple of times a week before my gym days. Now I’m not new to at home workouts , believe me, I’ve tried more than I care to admit over the years, but I’ve never be able to find something that really motivated me to want to keep coming back. Either the instructors voice or the background music was too annoying, or it was too intense I needed to take some “rest” days in between (and then forget about it).

FitOn Workouts & Fitness Plans on the App Store
FitOn App logo in App store

This week however,  I found a total gamechanger -the FitOn app. It’s a free (yes, actually free) app that is full of great workouts, and super user -friendly. I was so amazed I didn’t have to pay just to unlock more then two videos. It has thousands of different workouts that you can access, which seems daunting to search through, but they have it organized so that you can search by workout type, time, intensity and even by instructor. But one of my favorite features is that you can schedule your workouts and it’ll literally plop them into your Google Calendar and send you reminders. It’s like having amotivational gym buddy who lives in your phone and doesn’t flake out.

How it Went

I started doing quick morning workouts – mostly stretching first thing to wake myself up. And surprisingly, after a good stretch I was awake enough to sneak in a quick arm or lower body video. I felt more energized, which is exactly what I need at this point of the school year.  FitOn does have an added feature where you can pay to upgrade and have a customized workout plan, but the free version worked perfectly well for my current purposes.

As for my gym adventures this week: I finally worked up the courage to try the stair master. I’ve been seeing so manyTikToks that say adding 10-15 mins on the stair master after your strength training can really increase your results, so I figured “hey, why not”. What I didn’t think of was the fact that I had already done a full leg day – let’s just say I completely understand the term “spaghetti legs” now. I’m just glad it was still so early in the morning the gym wasn’t full yet. But hey, lesson learned I guess. Maybe I’ll just stick to trying it out on my upper body days.

My Learning Journey…so far

This week marks the halfway point of the semester and our Digital Learning Project. I’ve found some great online resources and I’ve worked out more than I have in ages. I’m slowly figuring out what works for me, but I’m feeling more energized and optimistic that these tools will help me finally become consistent with my fitness. I’m definitely not a fitness expert – but I’m no longer a “gym ghost” either, so I’d say that’s progress.

    Hello!
I loved reading your blog this week! I’m so glad you’re feeling better and easing back into your routine with intention — it’s so important to give yourself grace, especially after being sick.

Also, I love that you discovered FitOn! I’ve actually used it too and totally agree — it’s such a hidden gem! The variety and the fact that it’s truly free make it a go-to for me when I want something convenient and flexible.

If you’re ever looking to try something new, I highly recommend checking out a YouTube trainer I’ve been using lately called GrowWithGlow. She’s amazing! She has both beginner-friendly and more intense workouts, and I find her energy really motivating without being overwhelming. Her dance workouts are my absolute favourite — they’re such a fun way to break a sweat and boost your mood.

Also, good on you for trying the stair master after leg day — that’s a bold move! But seriously, you’re crushing it. It’s so cool to see how this project is helping you find tools that actually work for you and fit your lifestyle.

Can’t wait to read more as your journey continues!

    Hey Sky-Anne,

Great job getting back into it this week! It is so hard to start going again and as you know the hardest part of the journey is starting and you did it. The app you found looks like a super good app. You can’t find too many things especially workout apps that are free! As for the stair master, great job. That is a hard workout as it is but let alone after a leg day…I could not imagine. Great job again!

    Hey Sky-Anne!

I have never heard of the Fiton software application. Thank you for letting me know what it is and the function that this software application serves towards its users.

One of the software application I use throughout my fitness journey, is the default Health app that is already installed on apple phones. This free to use default software application is quite handy as it monitors daily calorie intake, daily protein intake, daily steps, and more. Another software application I tend to implement throughout my fitness journey is titled, MyFit Coach. This software application is quite beneficial as it gives its users the ability to keep a record of their gym routines and exercises.

Other forms of motivation that I tend to actively engage in is through social media platforms such as YouTube. Here, there are hundreds and thousands of fitness influencers such as “Athlean X” as well as “Bradley Martin”. They truly do build off their platform on gym tips and suggestions.

One thing that I kindly recommend integrating within your blog posts, Sky-Anne, is to kindly implement the usage of hyperlinks. I kindly suggest that whenever talking or specifically stating the name of a resource or digital tool, is to kindly provide the home page’s hyperlink of that tool you are using for any post. Overall I really appreciate your targeted skill and hope you find success and motivation in this learning journey.
