From Tech-Timid to Tech-Savvy: My EC&I 834 Journey

Today, I’m proud to share the Summary of Learning video I created for EC&I 834—a course that completely transformed my perspective on teaching in the digital world.

When I started, I had very little experience with educational technology. The thought of creating interactive content felt overwhelming. But step by step, I pushed past my fears, embraced new tools, and discovered how powerful and purposeful online and blended learning can be.

In this video, I showcase the course I designed for kindergarten students learning to count from 1 to 20. Using the ADDIE model, I built engaging lessons with interactive tools like Lumi, H5P, and Canvas—bringing playfulness, structure, and creativity into each learning moment.

More than just learning new tools, this journey taught me the true meaning of designing with intention—focusing on accessibility, student engagement, and real connection, even in virtual spaces.

I also experienced the power of community through platforms like Discord, where support and collaboration with Dr Katia and classmates made this experience even more meaningful.

    I just want to be sure you are still on the same planet… hahaha. Listening and watching your reflection shows how the struggles in the course have really developed your confidence in designing your course content for little learners. I also agree with you that Canvas is a really an awesome tool for creating fun and effective tools for early learners. Yes, I agree with you that time management is a very key skill to work on, especially when designing courses for younger children due to their limited concentration level.     Stepping out of our comfort zones can be incredibly challenging, so you should take great pride in overcoming that fear and making great strides with technology! Also, I connect so much with recognizing that there’s always room for growth. We all came into this class with different levels of online/blended experience, and yet we all still gained so much knowledge we didn’t have just a few months ago. It goes to show that no matter how much we think we know, there’s always more to discover, improvements to make, and ways to make learning better for our students! Great work!

    Sonia, this is such a thorough on and thoughtful reflection on your journey and growth over the course of the semester. It’s evident that you tried so many new things — I liked your emphasis on the opportunities for multiple forms of student interaction. As well, I appreciated how you stated that the learning to count from 1-20 video wasn’t “just a video, it was a guided learning experience”.
