Tech Tool for Teaching

For this blog prompt I chose the app ClassDojo. This app helps teachers keep in touch with families, students engagement, provides fun activities and learning games and has a fun way of keeping track of class or student points.

Here is a little video of me exploring ClassDojo for the first time. I loved the point system through this app because not only can you give class points you can also reward groups or individual students. I really enjoyed the different points you can reward and make your own so you can see what the students were rewarded for!

I found the scheduling piece a great way to communicate and remind students and guardians what is happening within the classroom and school.

Somethings I think ClassDojo could improve on would be the quality of the Dojo island as I found it very hard to see clearly and figure out the island. I think more detailed instructions for each game and possibly voice over of the demo videos could be best for all types of learners.

Overall I think this would be a great tool for my future classroom. I would love to play around with it a bit more and do a deep dive into what it is capable of!

  1. Hi Harli!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on ClassDojo! I also use it regularly in my before and after school program, and I’ve found it to be such a beneficial tool—especially compared to other digital platforms I’ve tried.

Like you, I really appreciate the point system—it’s a great motivator for students, and I love that you can customize the rewards to highlight specific behaviours or achievements. It really helps build a positive classroom culture, even outside regular school hours.

I appreciate your intake on this digital tool this week. I believe you will do wonderful things with this platform for your future classroom!

  2. Hey Harlieanne. The software application, Class Dojo, seems quite unique. I appreciate the fact that Class Dojo promotes engagement. This is because I feel that without engagement, individuals will not be able to communicate and learn off of one another. Collaboration is quite essential throughout any learning process as it encourages innovation. Collaboration promotes innovation in several ways (e.g., solving open-ended problems, provides a new perspective, and more).

Harlieanne, another point I really liked is the image you provided that shows how the app, Class Dojo, notifies its users through the notification system. For this project my targeted skill is learning how to speak Spanish. I am gradually accomplishing this through multiple apps including Duolingo and Quizlet. Both applications provide a similar feature of sending out notifications in order for their users to start learning. Software applications with such benefits is quite useful from my perspective.

  3. Hi, Harlie!

I’ve never heard of this tool before, and it seems very fun! I love that it can be used for single or multiple rewards; I think students would enjoy that. As well as being able to schedule in notifications, which is also very helpful for us and students. Thank you for sharing and including the introduction/demonstration video. I’ll have to give the app a try!
