Introducing Tadyn!
Hello everyone, welcome to my blog!
My name is Tadyn Martinook and I grew up in the small town of Melville, Saskatchewan. I recently just finished my second year of university working towards a degree in elementary education. I grew up in a very active family of six, including my three younger siblings who are my motivators to make education better for kids like them! I love to play sports such as volleyball and figure skating, and the biggest support at my brother’s hockey and baseball games. I like to take advantage of the time that I get to spend outdoors, whether that be camping, going to the beach, going on walks/runs, or even just reading a book on the deck. Some of the other activities I really enjoy are reading, painting and drawing, and just being able to spend time with my friends and family.
Within my education we had plenty of opportunities to incorporate educational technology into our learning. For example, all of our classrooms had SMART Boards and document cameras in every classroom that allowed us to engage further with documents that our teachers created for us to participate with. In all of our Math classes our teachers would sign each student up with IXL. This allowed us to work on math equations in areas that we were struggling with within the classroom and outside of it. It also allowed our teachers to track our progress, and they could see the areas that we were struggling in as well. We also frequently used Kahoot! Kahoot was a great way for our teachers to see where we were at when learning a new concept, help us prepare for a test, and as a brain break during a long day. Within High School each of us students were provided with a chrome book that allowed us to have access to the internet at all times, teachers to share documents directly with us, and work on assignments outside of school. Many of our teachers also used Google Classroom, this allowed them to share documents with the entire class, as well as students to keep up with their work when being away for a given period of time. It also created a place for us to hand-in assignments where they would be backed up and not at the risk of them being misplaced, which had happened from time to time from some of our teachers. Google Classroom was also what our teachers had used when we switched to online learning due to Covid.
One new thing that I have done with educational technology is create a Bitmoji classroom for ECE325. This project outlined the importance of creating online spaces for our students to access as it is a great way to interact with students in situations of online learning. It is also a great way to create online learning invitations and letting students explore their interests outside of the traditional classroom. Within my first year of university was when I set up my blog. For the most part I have used my blog to demonstrate my learnings for different courses, as well as read fellow classmates blogs; as well as presented my learning throughout the length of a few courses.
Although I do not have very much experience with blogging other than the little bit that I have done, I do believe they are a great resource. As our world is becoming more and more technology based, blogs are a great way for people to share their findings and knowledge with others. I like the thought of being able to share the work I am proud of with others, and share my thoughts around different topics. Before this class I did not have a twitter account set up, however, I am looking forward to using my twitter to join the teaching community out there and being able to read others thoughts and ideas!
