Final Overview of My Course Prototype

So what’s it all about?

Basically, this course helps first-year hospitality students figure out how to build awesome careers that are both good for them and good for the community. If you want all the more details, I wrote about it in an earlier blog post.

And how did I make it?

It was not just thrown together! Here’s the details:

Building the Course Itself: I organized everything into easy-to-follow sections, picked out cool resources that I have learned throughout this EC&I 834 course, and added videos to keep things interesting.
Trying it Out: I let a few of my peers test the course and tell me what they thought. This helped me fix any confusing parts.
Making it Better: I took their invaluable feedback and redesigned the course, making the course more organized and the whole thing easier to use.

….Let Me Show You!

I made a quick 10-minute video where I walk you through the whole course. You will see how it has been organized, how students navigate through it, and all the cool interactive activities.

Wrapping Up

Honestly, this has been a really fun project! I have learned many about designing courses and making them engaging through H5P tools. I am excited to keep improving it and eventually design an official one for my faculty in the future.

Thank you for spending time to read my final blog!

Hi Van, it is great to see your final product! One thing I particularly like about your course it that you are very intentional in your communication. You have a helpful course overview including assessment breakdown with grade descriptions, and then each module also has its own overview! One thing I’ve found in course design is that poor communication will lead to student confusion and demotivation, but in your example I do not think they will run into that because you’ve laid it out so nicely!

Youve also included a nice integration of H5P that will ensure that students engage with the material they are watching since questions will come up for them as they watch the videos!

It was great having another class with you and I wish you all the best in the future!

Hi Rhett, thank you so much for the thoughtful feedback! You always do.
When creating this prototype, I tried to put myself in the shoes of incoming freshmen, hoping the course structure and communication would help them as they begin their university journey. It’s wonderful to hear that it comes across clearly!

I also really appreciate your comments about the H5P integration – I’m excited about that feature too and definitely plan to use it in my real course.

And yes, it has been great having another class with you as well. Hope to see you again!

      Regards,

      Van

Huge congrats on finishing this project. It’s super clear you put a lot of time and thought into it. I really like how you didn’t just build the course and leave it there, but actually had people test it and made changes based on their feedback. That’s something a lot of people skip over, and it makes such a difference. Awesome work, you should be proud!

    • Thi Thanh Van Lam says:

Thank you so much, Mariah! I really appreciate your kind words. It definitely took a lot of effort for everyone in our class. Seeing the impact of the changes from zero to the final course made it all worth it!
I’m proud of how it turned out, and your encouragement means a lot to me.

Van, I really appreciated how your post felt like a behind-the-scenes look at your design process—it was like walking through your thinking step by step. You’ve clearly taken time to reflect deeply, not just on what worked, but on how your decisions impact learner experience. I was especially drawn to how you balanced structure with flexibility—it’s not easy to do, and you made it look seamless. Your voice came through so clearly, which made the post both informative and personal.

If you had one more week to tinker with your course, what’s something you’d experiment with or build out further?

Great work—your thoughtful design really stands out!

    Hi Allysia,

Thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate you taking the time to read my post and share such thoughtful feedback.
Answering your question, if I had one more week to work on the course, the one thing I would focus on is replacing all the ready-made YouTube videos with ones I create myself. I think having authentic content would allow me to better tailor the explanations to my learners’ needs and bring a more personal touch to the course. Plus, it would help to keep the tone and style consistent throughout.
Thanks again for the encouragement—it really motivates me to keep refining and improving!

The use of videos and H5P tools definitely adds interaction to your modules. Wishing you all the best as you continue refining your course and bring it to life for your faculty!

  6. What a great idea! The course seems like you had a real passion for it due to your organization and creation. Everything seems very well thought-out and planned to meet your goals. I enjoyed seeing how you incorporated H5P content into this course to make it interactive. Well done!
