“[Un]bury a Friend”
This blog post is all about what I found on a coworker named Hailea Wesgate. The first thing I found that stood out and found to be more than hilarious was the image searches. I figured with her unique spelling of her name that I wouldn’t get a whole lot of random photos of people but never did I assume I would find water pumps!
Her social media profiles that came up were Facebook and Instagram. I could not find her age in her about me section on Facebook but I was able to see her graduation photo from 2015 so based on this info I am able to deduce that she is about 27 years old. I also found out she moved to this area from Alberta the same year. This to me shows that she either knew people here before she moved here or was able to make good friends really quickly, showing that she has the ability to adapt to her surroundings very quick. Teenage girls are not always the most inviting and she still has group photos with people from her class and they look very comfortable and friendly.
On both of her account that I can find from the search, she does not have any politically charged posts. So, she either has a neutral stand point or has enough foresight to understand that social media is not necessarily the best platform for such views. She also does not have photos or posts about abusing substances or either alcohol or drugs. As an employer, this could show that she does not favour this behaviour and will be a reliable employee.
Because this person does not have a LinkedIn profile I would assume that she does not seem to have forethought about what she looks like to future employers and posts genuinely and this is who she is as a person.
I would advise this person to have more of a digital footprint for future employers to find more information that they would want to know – past jobs, etc. I know this person from working with her and know that she has a strong work ethic, is goal and task oriented, good with the public and is actually the supervisor at our daycare, a position I did not personally give her but agree that she deserves. She is also head of our OH&S committee because of her attention to detail. Her digital footprint currently does not show any of these strengths.

Hey Amanda!
It’s crazy what you can find on a person based on their social media accounts. I sometimes find myself going down a rabbit hole on Facebook when I can’t sleep. I’m also someone who needs to increase their digital footprint. When I search my own name, not much comes up about me. This course has taught me the importance of creating a positive online presence because some employers really do check online before hiring.
