Brownie Cheesecake and Kitchen Stories

This week I found an awesome resource to supplement my learning project: Kitchen Stories, available on the App Store and the Google Play Store. This was the first time I used an app for my learning project, and I honestly think this is the best cooking app that is out there. This app seems to have everything.

When you load up the app and go to the search section, you can search specific foods to find recipes or you can try and find recipes by selecting one of the categories. This week I wanted to change things up a little bit so I decided on making a dessert this week instead of a meal. I clicked the dessert section and browsed until I came across the Brownie Cheesecake recipe.

I’ve never made a cheesecake before, but this app made it really easy. When you first click on a recipe, it lists all the ingredients you will need, and it also gives you the difficulty of the recipe so you are not biting off more than you can chew. At the very top of the recipe, you can like, save, and share the recipe, and right above that, there is a video showing you how to make the recipe in case you are more of a visual learner. As you scroll down, it breaks the process into easy-to-follow steps, and there are even some how-to videos in case you are still unsure of something. Another cool feature is the ability to comment and review each recipe. In the comments, I saw some people asking questions for further clarification. You can also submit your own recipes, which I think is really cool.

The first step was to melt 120 grams of chocolate and 120 grams of butter together. Then, I mixed 2 eggs, 60 ml milk, 200g of sugar, 100g of flour and 1/4 tsp of salt into a hand mixer and mixed. When the chocolate and butter mixture was all melted, I added this to the mixer. When it was fully mixed, I poured the mixture into a springform pan and baked at 350°F for 25 minutes.

While that was cooking, I mixed 500g cream cheese, 150 g sugar, 3 eggs, 125g sour cream, and 1 tsp of vanilla extract into a large bowl and mixed it until it was smooth. Once the brownie was done cooking, I added the cheese mixture onto the brownie mixture and baked at 320°F for an additional 50 minutes. Unfortunately, I couldn’t eat it right away at this recommend it sits in the fridge for four hours or ideally overnight. When I woke up, I added a thin layer of whip cream to the top and garnished it with some fresh raspberries.

Overall, I really enjoyed using this app, and I highly recommend it. Like I said previously, I do not think a better cooking app exists. I plan on using this app even after this learning project is over; it is just such a good tool to find recipes and learn how to cook. I really like the comment feature of this app. It allows you to look at the comments if you are unsure of something. Another feature I really like is the video and the step-by-step directions. These features allow a beginner cook to take things at their own pace instead of struggling to keep up.

    Hey Branden!

I am so impressed with your cheesecake! It looks great, and I love the addition of the berries also. I am such a beginner at cooking so I really appreciate the review of the cooking app “Kitchen Stories”, I think that I might download it after reading your blog! I feel like while I turn to YouTube or just googling recipes, it does sound really convenient to have all of this information in one app. In that same regard, I also appreciate the shout-out to the other cooking blogs because I always love learning new receipts! Thanks for all the great resources!
