Major Project Ponderings
I am wavering between 2 of the options for the Major Project and like Cymone B. https://cymonebernauer.wordpress.com/2022/01/21/so-many-ideas/ I am looking for some feedback into my choices.
Option 1: Development of a curriculum-supported digital citizenship/literacy resource
As a Teacher-Librarian, it is actually a part of my job to promote digital citizenship and media literacy, though this is not a strength I currently have (hence the reason I am in this class!). It would be of great benefit to curate and develop a simple, user friendly resource for teachers to use with the younger grades for consistency.
Kara @kfidelack has inspired me with her thoughts on an early years resource https://kkflearningtoteach.wordpress.com/2022/01/21/major-project-idea-early-years-curriculum-resource/!
Option 2: Personal journey into media
I am certainly a novice when it comes to using digital apps and programs. I use Facebook, Instagram and Twitter – but by no means am I an expert! I believe I would grow exponentially by exploring some of the popular social and educational apps to better understand and facilitate safety and security implications with the older students at my school.
Any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated.
Brenda, no matter which option you pick, I am excited to see the final product from your lens as a teacher librarian! I love your idea to reference others’ blog posts from this week; very thoughtful and a great acknowledgement! Something you might be interested in trying next time is ‘hyperlinking.’ When editing/writing a post, you can highlight text you have typed to turn into a hyperlink. That way, the viewer can just click on the text in your post and it will take them to the link! The website below has instructions for how to do this in WordPress (I hope it will be similar in edusites). Check out Way #2. Happy blogging!

Thank you so much for the feedback and tip on ‘hyperlinking’! I will try that on my next blog post! I am so new to this blogging thing that I’m taking baby steps!
Brenda, I know whatever topic you will chose, you will do true justice to it. However, being new to Techworld and we are in exploration of different tech-friendly apps and media, I think option 2 will be good as you will see after some time how much progress is done and what all scope of improvement is required. All the best for your journey! Would love to see your posts in the future.
Hi Gunpreesh! I am definitely going to check out some new apps even if I don’t end up doing option 2 for a major project. I have been wanting to learn about some of the apps that were suggested and this class is the perfect springboard into doing just that!
Thanks so much for your input!
Hi Brenda,
I am sure, you will give your best in major project. Both options are good but choose the one in which you are confident. Definitely you will learn a lot from which ever option you choose. Thanks.
Those are definitely two wonderful options for you. To which one do you feel a stronger connection? I would suggest you consider which option is more needed at your school or division and move forward with that. In that way, your final project can be transferred to your existing context. You may even consider trying out what you create on a trial run and blogging about that. There are so many pssibilities for you! I am excited to follow your journey with whatever option you chose. There is an aura of excitement and anticipation in your posts. ?
Thank you for your kind words, Patricia. When I think about the role I play at my school, option 1 is likely the most needed. A curriculum resource tailored to my school would be so beneficial.
Hi Brenda!
I think that if you are a teacher-librarian the development of a curriculum digital resource would definitely be up your alley since you are in a position where you can gather tons of information from this class, your colleagues and your research to create something useful for your staff! Sometimes just having all of the tools in one place for your school can make it so much easier for teachers to even remember that these online tools and websites exist in the first place. Before Covid, we used to do lunch and learns where we could share the tools/ideas that we were implementing without staff in a short little 10-15 minute presentation. Can’t wait to see where it takes you!
I think the best advice I can give, is to go with your gut. Whatever you think is going to be the most helpful and rewarding for you, is the project that I would go with. Who knows, maybe if you reach out to a few people they may want to work on this together with you? Two heads are always better than one, and maybe you’ll come up with something pretty magnificent. I know that it can be a daunting task taking on a big project, but remember that it is more about the process and the learning than solely the end result. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to have a lovely artifact that went exactly as planned, but we as teachers know that sometimes that’s not always the case. Hopefully, you find what you are looking for sooner than later! 🙂
Hi Brenda! I say go for option 1! As a teacher-librarian, I bet it would be a really rewarding experience for you, as well as super useful. I’m thinking part of your research might even be exploring some of those apps you mentioned in option 2, so you would be deepening your knowledge in that area, while also creating a resource for yourself and others. What better time to create something like that then now? Good luck!
