Volunteer Work

There are a number of organizations that I have volunteered with over the past few years. I will list them all below.

Heart of the City – I volunteered as a piano and violin teacher for two young girls through the Heart of the City program in Moose Jaw. This program provides music lessons to students who would not otherwise have the opportunity due to financial limitations. It is free for the children as the schools provide the instruments and the volunteers provide the lessons. It is a great organization and being able to teach music to these kids and watch them improve was truly amazing.

Learn to Skate Program – I volunteered as learn to skate coach for the Moose Jaw Speed Skating Club. I was a skater myself for a number of years so it was great to be able to give back to the club. It was a very rewarding experience as I got to watch rapid improvements of young kids who had never been on skates to achieve a level of independence on the ice.

Red Cross – I volunteered as a babysitting course instructor for a number of years. I am currently looking to get back into it as I enjoyed it so much. I liked teaching the class because it made me feel like a real teacher and I got to teach important skills such as First Aid and beginner CPR.

High School Tutor – Last year, while attending the U of S, I got the opportunity to be a high school tutor through the Greystone Scholars. I tutored students for two hours every Monday for the entire year. It really made me realize that I want to be a high school teacher.

Teacher’s Assistant – For the past two summers I have volunteered at the Canadian International School of Beijing as a T.A. It is a six week long summer camp and I was responsible for a class of 6-12 students. I would take them around to each activity, supervise them during play time and meals and help the teacher with lessons during class. I loved this experience and I am considering applying to attend again next year.
