For this specific blogging assignment, I tried out, ChatGPT.
As an educator I believe that we need to engage our students in a meaningful, authentic and engaging way. That being said we are definitely in the digital age and need to have component within our teaching tools. I feel I could incorporate AI into my classroom by modelling and encouraging my students to create some questions based on what our learning outcomes using ChatGPT. Then taking the questions, answers created by ChatGPT and cross referencing them with other sources. This will reinforce the the need for reliable information.
With the use of this technology of AI, comes new ways to support critical thinking skills, having students use their previous knowledge to scaffold their leaning. As educators this is something we need to foster in the children we teach, as it continues to build competent and successful learners. Integrating these ideologies with technology is one of the best ways we can set students up to be successful.
Although with this, also comes with the question of ethics. Ensuring that students get the best of both worlds allows for a well rounded and balanced education. It will also allow students to become aware of the potential dangers that AI can bring within the realm of education. For simple things such as the question “What is a good grade 3 ice breaker activity?” I think AI can be a great supportive tool, if used properly. The discussion of origin
al ideas, copyright and plagiarism needs to be further studied by ethics committees as well as legalities.
Personally, I see both the strengths and challenges of incorporating AI into a classroom setting. Although it is something that is already so widespread, it continues to make it difficult not to include it into the classroom; even though I do believe there are some limitations that may make it difficult. Much like the ethics question, AI does not have the connections with our students and the community that we as educators do. Authentic relationships are essential, and I work hard to build real connections throughout the semester. Because of this I believe it leaves AI to be lacking in creating a personal touch to the lesson plan at hand, as well as thinking about the possible quick second modifications that we may need to do.
