access to anything and everything

As I think about last class I focus alot on the question Katia asked regarding “Should we fire someone because of something they did on the internet in the past”. I feel like I voiced my strong opinion on this… but I think that one: it depends the situation, two: I don’t think that something you did in the past should always affect your future. Unless you went to jail for it… then that offence was obviously a bit more serious than something getting leaked on the internet. That something met the court system. Anyways, this isn’t about that right now. This is about should something you post online affect you 5-10 years down the road. I don’t think so. I don’t think its fair. We should all get the chance to be silly teenagers, make mistakes… that is what life is about. NO, when it gets posted to the interent, it isn’t awesome + it is out there for everyone to see. That has to be noted. But I don’t think that it should affect whether we get hired for a job or not. Cybersecurity digital footprints made of binary code, highlighting the importance of cybersecurity and protecting one's digital footprint from unauthorized access and exploitation.

I think that if we do that we fail people. We as humans need to educate on the digital footprint. Bring awareness to the seriousness of having a digital footprint, rather than using a scare tactic that never works for kids anyways. Once all the tools are in place the kids are going to do what they are going to do. They are kids. We know they are going to sneak on to apps underage. We know they are going to take videos/send pictures/ make silly posts. We just have to educate them on what to communicate on their social media. We want their socials to represent them.

I actually think it is really messed up how easily the internet can dictate our lives. Education. Relationships. Family. Vehicles. Homes. Jobs. Adventures. Travelling. Politics. Kids. Kids activities. Conspiracy theories. Interviews. The list goes on. The internet truly runs the world. Our identities. But without it… where would we be… right?

Conspiracy theories phraseI also think it is messed up how quickly opinions matter on the internet. WHY DOES James4958 comment about our body hurt so bad. WHY DOES sara59 amazon cart matter so much to us? WHY DOES influencer Alana90 get to tell us how to parent… and we listen? I think that without opinions mattering from the internet so much the internet wouldn’t have so much of a say on what happens when we post something. Posting something should only matter to us… why do we feel a shame wave when we do post? We should be proud of the person we are on the internet. It also sucks because or world is so big on the internet. I am friends with so many people on facebook that I haven’t seen in years… why should they get a say or an opinion on my life today? Thats not fair or right. But we search for the validation.

I don’t think that what someone does on the internet 10 years ago should matter now. I don’t think that others on the internet should get a say in what blows up our lives and what doesn’t. I think it has all been made too serious.

I feel like I could actually rant about this all day… YIKES. I am a firm believer in that we should not of let the internet/ social media control our lives, yet here I am and here we are.
