Pixels to Papers: Juggling Leisure Tech and Academic Tools

Regular Daily Technology Use

On average, I probably spend 7-8 hours of technology, if not even more, between my laptop and my phone. I just realized that is a third of my day. Most of those hours are spent on leisure time either streaming a show on Netflix or Disney+. I try my best not to use social media as much and I actually deleted my Instagram years ago and I never looked back. However, I do still use Snapchat, Facebook and TikTok. I game as well on my PS5 so between my phone, laptop and PS5 I probably spend too much time in front of a screen.

Spotify is probably my favourite app. I use it more than any other on my phone. I listen to podcasts or music for hours a day, while I do any daily tasks such as cleaning or studying. I use it all the time, even for background noise if I am doing nothing at all.

Academic Technology Use in my Daily Life

Academic technology in my daily use mainly consists of using Urcourses to see my classes and what I have to do throughout the week. I use ChatGPT sometimes to ask it questions if I am ever stumped on something I do not understand in my studies. I have used it to help me create a a title for an essay when I can’t make one, I used it to help me practice making lesson plans or to find sources on topics I am researching when writing a project. I use Google as well but who doesn’t? I do not have any tools that help me stay focused, which I probably should since I am diagnosed with ADHD. I do use tools to help me remember things such as setting reminders on my Alexa Echo Show or using my calendar app to put in my due dates so I do not forget them. When it comes to note taking I use Microsoft’s OneNote as I can create separate categories for my semesters, and within those separate classes. I find it the best to help me stay organized and keep all my schoolwork in a similar space.
