Summary of Learning
And that’s a wrap! Thanks to my EC&I 834 classmates for the feedback, camaraderie, and support over the semester.
Below is my Summary of Learning – I touch on the Bates continuum, adapting available programs to ‘create’ our own LMS, AI, and the importance of community.

I’m seeing a couple of videos made in Canva, and they look great! I have a Canva account, and I had no idea this was a feature. I will definitely use this in the future, thank you for sharing! I also mentioned on Amber’s post that I’m continually impressed to see and hear about the capabilities of Google Classroom, and Microsoft Teams as well. If I wasn’t tied to UR Courses at work, I would definitely explore these further. And I’ve always been impressed with Seesaw as a parent – it’s good to see what you’ve done with it. I also like that you mentioned the importance of reducing and managing anxiety in students, and making sure students feel safe and supported. I *thought* my prior safety training was accessible, but I hadn’t really considered this. I hadn’t thought of it being a concern with a class that was online, but there are so many kinds and sources of anxiety. I’m hoping that personalizing my course, being available to students in multiple ways, being very clear about the format and expectations, encouraging (nicely) interactions, giving students a choice of how to interact, introducing some fun/games/competitions, providing information about mental wellness/academic advising, facilitating mentorship in the labs, and having lots of formative assessments will help put students at ease. Good job!
Thank you Lauren! And thank you for all your helpful feedback throughout this entire semester. Everytime I see you’ve commented, I know it will be something valuable. Appreciate you!
Best of luck in the rest of your courses, and thanks again!
Great Summary of Learning Meagan! I also didn’t realize that Canva allowed for video making, with audio. I will exploring this in the future. I love your ideas on adapting programs to act as an LMS. I also used Seesaw and Teams in my prototype so was thrilled to see I wasn’t the only one who took the course prototype project in a different direction.
Thank you for your support and engagement this semester with my blog posts, in class break out groups and through the peer feedback you gave me on my prototype. Thanks!
Thanks, Teagan! Truthfully it can be a long process, but I’ve had students choose this feature over PowerPoint a LOT. The audio is also helpful if students have presentation anxiety, which I’ve found more and more struggle with every year.
Thank you for all your help and feedback this semester – always a pleasure to work with you 🙂
