Conversations with Ty ?

To start off with I would like to share a little conversation with Ty the T-rex about Assessment. Any chance to share my views on something is welcomed. The conversation went something like this:
1- What is your full name? Morganne Connick
2- Hey, at what level are you planning to teach?: Secondary
3- What do you think is your favorite subject to teach?: Special Education
4- How important do you believe ASSESSMENT is in education?: 8
5- Describe what assessment and evaluation mean to you.: Assessment to me means more than just marks on a page. I firmly believe it is a way to reflect on your own teaching and what students are learning. Are students succeeding or does it look like they are struggling? So how can I as a teacher adjust my teaching for students to reflect growth in their assessment?
6- At this point, how much are you enjoying this assessment?: Pretty good.
7- Why do you think assessment and evaluation are used within the education system?: Short answer, assessment is used to gauge where students are at in their understanding, and in turn to this reflects marks. The long answer is a way for teachers to observe strengths and areas which can use improvement. This is why formative and summative are so important.
8- Describe a couple of good assessments, and not-so-good assessments, that you have experienced as a student. How did these assessments affect you?: I personally struggle with test-taking, it was and is something I dread doing. I find tests or exams as a not-so-good assessment. A good assessment in my books is something that allows students to use creativity and their interests. Tests are fine but it needs to be a mixture of both tests and creative assignments.

4- Honestly, list the absolute least amount of changes that you NEED or MUST (remember, it could be nothing) to do to your personal goal(s) task by the end of the semester?: I don’t think I need to make changes to the goal itself but possible to how I will carry it out.
5- Okay, now think about and list all the DREAM and EXTRAORDINARY changes that you could TRY to do to your personal goal(s) task by the end of the semester to make it the very best it could be?: The changes I would make would be putting this plan into action and breaking down the steps that will help me be successful in creating this goal.
6- Finally, list all the changes that you CAN and are WILLING to do (considering time, desire….etc.) to your personal goal(s) task by the end of the semester?: I am willing to change some of the layout, maybe alter the goal and use more resources.
