Journey to Reconciliation

For my visual representation I made a painting that is about 4 ft x 2 ft.  I chose to represent in the dark side how isolated and afraid the Indigenous peoples would have felt in the residential schools.  On the lighter side I painted a colourful pow wow dancer that speaks to the beauty their culture had before the residential schools and the culture that they are bringing back to life.  In the middle I have depicted an Indigenous man wearing a robe, made with the colours of the medicine wheel, embracing a boy that was in a residential school. It’s to remind us that not only is being embraced by their culture important for their healing, but it’s important so that we can understand what was taken from them.  And now it’s a time to restore what our ancestors took away.
