Using Effective Instructional Strategies

Exit Cards – Students respond to questions/prompts at the end of class to check understanding.

Graphic Organizers / Mind Maps – Use these visual organizers to brainstorm ideas.

Jigsaw – All students are put in expert groups where they will learn about something. Then, one just from each expert group will join together (home groups) to share what they learned with their peers.

Sticky Notes – These can be used for students to write questions, ideas, connections, and new learnings on. These can be organized in the classroom, or given to the educator.

Think-Pair-Share – Students will think about the prompt or question, then join with a partner to discuss. Afterwards, each pair is invited to share in a large group discussion.

Turn & Talk – Turn to the person beside you and discuss questions, thoughts, and connections to the topic.
