Big Brothers

Last year, prior to joining the education program I decided I wanted to get some experience to see if teaching was something I could see myself doing. I decided to begin volunteering with the Big Brothers program in Regina. I have been involved for over a year now, and I’m glad I decided to join because I’ve learned so much from the experience. I spend about two hours every week with my mentee, we play games, sports, see movies, go swimming and visit local events together. Now getting to do fun activities is definitely a far cry from teaching students no doubt, but doing this had reassured me that I can build a relationship with a child in a positive manner and act as a role model. I’ve learned from him that I feel ready to take the next step and start learning about teaching and engaging people in thought provoking material. I’m excited for my journey!
