Pre-Internship Lesson Plans

ELA 6 – Writing a Friendly Letter In this lesson students learn there are different types of letters, and specifically the parts of a friendly letter with an opportunity to practice.

ELA 6 – Figurative Language In this lesson, music is used to demonstrate the purpose of using figurative language.  Different types are briefly discussed with a focus on how they can make their writing more interesting.

Science 6 – Living or Non-Living Things Students will use an anagram to help them remember and understand the scientific criteria used to determine if things are living or not living.  Different perspectives are also introduced (Indigenous perspective)

Science 6 – Vertebrates and Invertebrates To expand on previous lessons, the animal kingdom is divided into 2 sub-groups with each having additional categories.  This lesson introduces the subgroups and categories and provides an interactive game to classify various members of the animal kingdom.

Health 6 – Stereotypes & Body ImageThe goal of this lesson is to help students look at advertising with a critical lens, be able to identify stereotypes within advertising, and the effect these stereotypes can have on our body image.

Arts Ed 6 – Grafitti Art In this lesson students will learn to create simple graffiti-style art in an appropriate manner as a way to express their identities.

Lesson Plan Assignments

Grade 7 – Adding/Subtracting Integers Unit Plan This unity plan contains several lessons designed to help students learn, understand, and apply the concept of adding and subtracting positive and negative integers and provides an opportunity to understand real-world applications of this math concept.

Grade 1 – Patterns This Planning for Clarity assignment is designed to teach students how to recognize and replicate repeating patterns including ones in their school environment.

Grade 3 – Fractions This Mini Unit Plan includes an outline for a full unit on teaching fractions and a specific plan for the first lesson of the unit which includes learning the part of a fraction and introducing how to use fractions.

Grade 8 – One Great Thing This plan includes cross-curricular applications on the topic of the dwindling bee population (subjects include drama, visual arts, dance, music, science, and math).

Grade 8 – Put Your Mask on First This lesson uses the principles of the medicine wheel to demonstrate the importance of self-care in helping others.

Grade 7 – What’s Your Style In this lesson students will learn their preferred style for conflict resolution and will use that information in a role-play situation.

Multi-Grade Caffeine Paper Clip Project In this assignment, lesson plans are included for several grades (specifically 4, 7, & 8 and a school-wide campaign) for a preventive health program around caffeine and the effects over-consumption can have on our bodies.
