Crochet Has Never Been This Fetch

Published by Jerico on

Hey, everyone! If you read my blog post last week, you’ll know that I promised that I would try a new learning source other than YouTube and film some of my work. If you’re reading this now, I have to admit that I am a liar. Before you get at me, I will make the excuse for myself that I have been extremely stressed with other classes because for some reason professors want to put multiple midterms and due dates right after reading week.

Regardless, I did do some crochet work and decided to start another project alongside my blanket. Since the blanket that I am doing has such a simple pattern, I wanted to do something a bit more creative and challenging. I actually saw this idea first on TikTok, but because the nature of the project and how detailed the steps were, the creator wasn’t able to fully post the tutorial on TikTok and instead provided a link to their YouTube video.

Mahum’s video was so incredibly informative and aesthetically pleasing. They provided great commentary that detailed their process and was very illustrative in what the piece should look like. There were some steps that I already knew, but I appreciate that they made the video such that it was extremely accessible. Some new techniques that I learned from them was how to triple crochet and how to half double crochet. The puff stitch in the video was a unique technique that they created for this project and I adore this design. Here are some photos of my process.

  • Third Row in Progress

  • One Completed Side

As you can see, I only managed to get one side done, but it actually took a lot of time. I’m hoping with one side under my belt I can complete the other side in no time. Additionally, I haven’t stopped working on my blanket and wanted to give a little update on that.

For some context, I had to buy two more cakes of yarn to add onto what I had before. This is the progress I made after using one entire cake. I have a feeling I’ll need to buy many more.

Come back next week for more updates about the blanket and purse projects!

The blanket and bag look great Jerico! I am starting to become jealous that I didn’t pick a cooler thing to learn to do. This looks so fun and you get a product out of it! Do you find it relaxing and is it something you find you want to do often or do you dread it? I might learn to crochet just for fun after seeing this! That bag is so cute:)

Hi Jerico, I think it’s such a cute project, I would recommend to you to also look on telegram, there are some free patterns you can work on and they are so pretty too!

Hi Jerico,

Wow, you are doing so well!!! Oh my goodness, and I can’t even blame you for just watching YouTube videos, as I am having a hard time finding another good source to learn how to crochet more. I want one of those bags, they are so nice!! Congratulations on all the progress that you have made so far!

Hiya,
I may have mentioned this before, but: I really like how you include humour in your blog posts, it makes them friendly and easy to read.
I also agree that the onslaught of due dates and midterms undermines the point of Reading Week, very stressful!
That bag is stunning, I hope you achieve what you want from this project!
I really like the yarn you picked out for the blanket, also. It makes such an aesthetically pleasing ‘pattern’ when crocheted in the ‘spiral’ pattern that is required for a granny square.
“Stop trying to make ‘fetch’ happen, Jerico, it’s never going to happen!”
Austin.
