Chasing Too Many Threads

Hey, everyone! Welcome back to my learning project and I am happy to introduce you to… THE BALL.

As you can see, I managed to finish the amigurumi ball that I started and failed last week. It’s not much, but it’s honest work. Seriously, though, I enjoyed this small project since it was a break from the basic technique of crocheting in rows and forced me to be very attentive and careful about my progress. I’m certain that I will be using these skills in future projects.

In my last post, as well, I mentioned that I would update you on my next project. I wanted to correct though, I said project (singular) but I meant projects (plural). Just as I was working on my blanket and my purse at the same time, I decided that I was going to work on two projects at once since I enjoyed crocheting so much. As you know, I often resort to YouTube to guide me in these projects; however, I found a completely new online resource in the form of pattern guides.

The first pattern that I wanted to follow is this cardigan project that I found on Yarnspirations. From what I can tell, this is the same process as what I followed in making my granny square blanket, but instead of a square, I worked in a 6-sided hexagon. For me, it sounds quite intuitive because when you fold a hexagon in half, you produce an L-shape. This L-shape looks a lot like a sleeve. Thus, if you make two hexagons, fold them in half, and sew them together, in theory, you should get something resembling a cardigan. I hope to update you soon on my progress and what I’m learning from this project.

The second project I’m going to pursue is a horned cowl. In the process of trying to find projects on TikTok, I stumbled upon CrochetbyDrew. I can’t say too much about this project or give many details about the pattern because if you want to follow along, you’ll have to go to his Etsy page to buy the pattern where he details the pattern in great depth –  support small creators! Hopefully, soon I will have a horned cowl for myself.

Both of these patterns are text resources so hopefully, I can adjust to the lack of moving pictures and understand how to read them. Come back next week to see my progress!

Hiya,
How did you like working with pattern guides rather than videos? //I knit, not crochet, so idk if this is anything to you// I’ve heard that people get tripped up when using patterns, because they count stitches ‘wrong’, since they didn’t realize the first one counts as ‘one’, not ‘zero’. //if you’re going to acknowledge this caution, maybe do a bit more research, since I barely know what I’m talking about; just be clear on what the pattern is asking of you//.
You continually choose such interesting projects, and this helps keep my attention on your blog. I keep thinking ‘I wonder what they’re up to now’ and wishing you success!
