Maximizing engagement of multilingual students is an important step to having a classroom that is inclusive to all. Some ways to make the classroom space itself more engaging for multilingual students would to have poster, labels, and other forms of the language and/or languages that students may speak. Labeling classroom items could be a great way for multilingual students to feel comfortable in a classroom. To help teacher maximize engagement of multilingual students can be by emcompassing the student’s language by having the student share a new word for their language everyday or every week and tell the class what the word means in the language and why they chose to share the word. This can help the multilingual student feel heard and appreciated but also can open non-multilingual students to new words and cultures. Allowing and encouraging multilingual students to research or assignments in their languages for class projects.
