Creating a Safe Space

As a teacher, I will strive to create a classroom environment where all students feel safe to share. I will do this by always coming into class with a positive attitude, and by sharing my positivity with my class. I will also always display students, and to show students to be proud of the things they accomplish with the classroom. I also believe kindness makes the world a better place and as a teacher, it is my job to model what kindness looks like for my students. I also feel a big step towards creating a safe space is creating classroom connections and relationships.

Foster Relationships

Relationships are a major part of how the classroom works, as a teacher we always want to create positive and productive relationships with our students. I believe it is important to be genuine with your student, this help to create trust between the teacher and students. I also believe that it is so important to have respect in all relationships, this is key to having a safe environment. These relationships we create with students can become a major part of a students life and we are responsible to help them grow and learn.

Classroom Instruction

Classroom instruction should be done in multiple ways and involve multiple learning styles. In order to reach the need of all students within the classroom we need to use many different teaching methods. There is no right or wrong way to teach things, but their is a need for differentiation, not all lesson can be taught the same way. We as teacher need to use the resource available to us and tailor lessons to the classroom and the different learning styles to suit each class.

Classroom Activism

I believe a classroom is a place of growth and learning, but it should also be a place that challenges beliefs and colonial ways of thinking. Within my classroom, diversity will be celebrated and I will use resources, and posters that have representations of all peoples. I will also teach children the importances of respecting and learning from diversity. I also want my students to learn the power of actions, and how their everyday actions can make the world a better place.
