Zones of Regulation

Zones of Regulation

Zones of Regulation (Zones)  is a program designed to foster self-regulation and emotional control in elementary aged children. This proactive program provides strategies to teach students to become more aware of their emotional reactions, how to control their emotions and impulses, managing their sensory needs and improve their ability to problem solve conflicts. Zones categorizes all the different feeling states into four concrete zones that are easy concepts for children to grasp. The zones are then compared to traffic signs and students are taught how to manage emotions based on what zone they are experiencing.

Mind Up Curriculum

The MindUp Curriculum is a resource that we use in our school

What is MindUp? | The Mindful Classroom

This curriculum focuses on 4 pillars:

  • Neuroscience
  • Social Emotional Learning
  • Positive Psychology
  • Mindfulness Awareness

The curriculum is available in multi grade levels but I will be focusing on the grade 3-5 within my classroom. This resource includes multi units on teaching children to understand their brain, mindful awareness, focussed awareness, focusing mindful senses (listening, seeing, smelling, tasting), social interactions, perspective talking, choosing optimism, learning to appreciate the happy experiences, expressing gratitude, and performing acts of kindness.

We all need a little calm in our lives…

Here you will find access to some videos that I have played in my classroom while we are working on meditation, quiet class work, mindfulness, or any other activities that may require some music to bring a sense of calmness to your room; I really like to have the music playing when the kids enter into the classroom in the morning, this helps set a tone. I personally prefer not to show the videos but that is a personal preference.
