Truth and Reconciliation Philosophy

*I will develop community within my classroom (taking action)

I believe that every year I should encourage students to complete an action plan towards reconciliation. This action plan is not merely just immersing themselves in their culture, but finding a way to help rebuild their community.

*I will promote truth and reconciliation within my classroom (what it means to me)

I believe as an educator, even though we may not have all the information on a subject, we are still called upon to teach what we know, what we don’t know, and what we need to do to move forward in regards to truth and reconciliation.

*I will teach of equality and instill passion within my students to strive for social justice (nullify existing stereotypes)

I believe that incorporating cultural diversity into my teachings will invalidate existing stereotypes. This process will begin in my classroom and with success, will change the way students reflect about their peer’s differences. I believe the way to accomplish this is by pushing students to put themselves in other’s shoes, and therefore instilling empathy.

*I will strive to develop an equal learning environment for all students (eliminating marginalization)

I believe that students have a preferred way of learning with regard to visual, audible, and kinesthetic methods, therefore I will used instructional strategies that encompass all of these variations.
