Professional Development Plans

Below are my Professional Development Plans and Goals that I will refer to throughout my future teaching.

Professional Development Plans

I will educate my students using a variety of instructional strategies. Allowing my students to have the opportunity to be at the fore-front of their learning.

I will encourage reflection as a source of learning. Self-reflection is very important to me.

I will represent and support all students.

I will allow for all voices to be heard.

I will collaborate with my colleagues and the surrounding to community to provide the best resources for my students.

I will never stop learning new information.

I will begin to be comfortable being uncomfortable, “you must confront your own discomfort at all costs” (Lathan, 2020).

I will be a leader. I will be a supporter. I will be role model.

Fat Pedagogies

I want to ensure that all my students feel accepted and safe in my classroom regardless of differences.

I want to eliminate the oppressive stereotype of what it means to be normal.

I will normalize and acknowledge the term ‘fat’ as being a descriptive word rather than using it in a harmful and discriminatory manner.

I will provide my students with resources that portray all types of bodies.

I want to dismantle ‘thin privilege’ (Fat Pedagogy Reading) and show my students that everyone is worthy.

Anti-Racist Pedagogies

I will create a diverse and inclusive classroom where all my students are accepted.

I will put any biases aside to ensure that all my students receive the best education that they deserve.

I will embrace and acknowledge the different cultures and traditions of my students.

I will take the time to get to know my students and their families to support them in the best way possible.

I will not change a students name or give them an alternative name, “To give students nicknames or to refuse to pronounce student names is to reject them from their families, language and cultureā€ (Christenseen, 2020).

I want to begin interrupting the idea of white superiority (Diangelo, 2016).

I will acknowledge and understand the terms of oppression and racism (Baudu, 2020, 23:40) in order to create an environment that addresses anti-racist pedagogies.

Gender Friendly Learning Environment

I will refrain from using gendered terms to address my class.

I will embrace the use of pronouns inside and outside of the classroom.

I will provide my students with gender neutral resources.

I want to ensure that my students feel welcomed and accepted. I do not want my students to live in fear and/or be ashamed of who they are.

I will reduce the gender norms stereotype.

I will create a gender friendly classroom.

Recognizing Neurodiversity and differing Abilities

I will accept all students not matter the differences in abilities.

I will treat all students with fairness and equality.

I will adapt my lessons to ensure that all the needs of my students are being met.

Culturally Responsive Pedagogies

I will incorporate and embrace the different cultures into my classroom. I will plan to incorporate cultures and religions into class lessons and assignments (Vaught, 2020).

I will invite students and family members to come into the classroom and teach the class about their culture.

I will provide resources in which recognize the different cultures within the classroom.

I want the voices of all my students to be heard. I never want my students to feel unworthy or less important because of the differences in cultures.

Education for Decolonization; Truth & Reconciliation

I will educate my students on the importance of Treaties.

I will incorporate treaty education into all subjects.

I will help my students achieve reconciliation.

I will acknowledge the Treaty that we are living on. Treaty 4 Territory.

I will honour the stories told from the elders (Meck & Molde-Pickering, 2020).

I will continue my own learning on Treaties to further educate my students.

My Professional Development Plans were created with the aid of collaborating with my peers in the ECS 303 course. The discussion we had on the professional development plans was very insightful and interesting. I was able to further my goals and plans for my future classroom throughout this discussion.
