Through looking at the Hanover School Division views on assessment, I strongly connect with the beliefs and missions shared on there. In your mission statement and in my education at the University of Regina, focusing on having a student-centered classroom/environment to allow students to strive for both excellence and skills to have a wholesome life is a piece I have integrated into my teaching philosophy through the years. Developing students to have skills and values to have a productive life came into discussion heavily while studying physical education, but as I began to increase my own knowledge on edeucation and students it opened me to see how important that is in any classroom.
When it comes to assessment as an educator I want to be using the best practices, adaptations and tools to be able to support the students I will be teaching. Shared within your assessment tab was a mention on the primary principles of assessment; assessment FOR learning, assessment AS learning and assessment OF learning. While I believe all three factors are crucial for students in their learning journey, assessment FOR and AS I strongly believe in providing for students. While incorporating those two heavily through assessment it allows for students to develop an understanding to their learning and not just memorizing material, similar to what was shared in your deeper learning approach pdf. Within my own experience I am aware of how diverse a group of students can be within a class, and after using both formal (formative) and informal assessments (summative) and understanding with where they are at in their learning will help me better support them. Giving specialized student assessments to students who struggle to either meet outcomes, or if adaptations and differentiating instruction are insufficient is something I have seen as a way to better support specific students. As in the ened the purpose of assessment is to gain better understanding of their learning needs of a student to be able to program appropriately.
I hope to be able to use my views on assessment through your school division, as I feel strongly connected to yours.
