Everyone Has To Eat
I don’t cook. Everything I eat is out of a box or a can of some sort. This last week alone I had Kraft dinner, subway, mushroom soup and a frozen pizza. There is nothing wrong with eating those things, but I feel like I am in a rut. I have never enjoyed cooking and I think part of the reason is because I don’t truly know how to. On a scale of 1-10 my cooking ability would be about a 4. I can follow instructions on a package, but that is the extent of it. As for cooking more fresh and home-cooked meals, it doesn’t happen. I am also a really picky eater so venturing out and trying new things isn’t something I am always eager to do.
My learning plan project is to tackle my subpar cooking skills as well as venture out of my comfort zone with food. Over the next few weeks I am going to challenge myself to make at least one meal a week. The focus is going to be on making these meals be home-cooked and something I have never tried before. For some people this may seem like the easiest thing on the planet, but for someone who eats the same thing over and over again it is going to be a huge learning journey.
There are a few keys things I want to work on each week. Barbequing, crockpot meals, and integrating more vegetables are just a few ideas.
Where am I going to learn how to do this? My plan is to use my Pinterest board as inspiration, YouTube and other cooking videos for “how to” demonstrations, asking my family and friends for tips and tricks, and opening the cookbooks that have yet to be opened.
My hope is by the end of this, cooking won’t seem like such a daunting and difficult task! I hope you enjoy following my journey as I discover what cooking is all about!
Great idea Kassidy!
Similar to you, I eat the same things over and over. I didn’t know this was a symptom of ADHD until diagnosed, but now I’m more aware of it however I still struggle with eating habits due to me working and doing school from the start of my day to the very end of my day at bedtime (my crochet project will help). I am a picky eater but LOVE my mom’s recipe…
EASY PULL MUSHROOM SOUP PORK CHOP RECIPE
1. (optional) fry pork chop(s) until brown
2. put pork chop(s) in the crockpot with 2 cans of mushroom soup
3. add 1 can of milk & spices of choice
4. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4.5 hours
We add mashed potatoes, corn, peas, beans or rice as a side and use the sauce in the crockpot to pour on top. I hardly eat meat because I got sick from it when I was younger… TRAUMATIZING… and can’t stand the feeling of it, but this recipe makes them sooo soft – I have never had a problem and it’s a great recipe for university students 😉
I have a few friends who have tried HelloFresh and enjoyed it. Have you heard of it before? From my understanding you choose what meal you would like delivered and they will deliver most, or all the products you will need, then you cook! It seems to be cost-efficient as well.

My mom and Nana made AMAZING meals and baking and I decided to write down my favourite recipes from them so that I could always have them. You are more than welcome to look through what I have so far.
P.S. It is not edited and is a little crazy… I promise is on my plate of things to do.
See what I did there 🙂

Kassidy, this sounds like a great learning project! I always love finding new recipes online. If you’re looking for recipes to follow, one of my favourite food bloggers is Denise at Sweet Peas and Saffron. She has recipes on her site (sweetpeasandsaffron.com) and also makes YouTube how-to videos. She does a lot of meal prep ideas, but she also has some great slow cooker and one-pot recipes. My personal favourite is the One Pot Sausage Pasta! Good luck with your learning project!
