Getting Ed. tech started!

Hi all!

So excited to start my ed. tech blog! To get the ball rolling, I’ll start with saying technology is a language I’ve always struggled with. I’m excited because this course is my not so comfort zone area to deal with – so this is a good recipe for growth, right?

I currently run a local visual arts programs business while completing my degree, and as many teachers, had to move to online teaching – and so my online path had begun reluctantly at first yet as with anything over the last year flexibility and mindset were and still are key. But my art and students keep me going!

My experience with education technology is pretty new, as I mostly work now with zoom and have been learning and teaching how to teach arts classes online, yet my focus was not on building the platforms (i.e. wordpress, etc.) but more on how to deliver the content I want through not in person contact- how to engage students via zoom instead of via the studio.

Blogging is pretty new to me. I have a website where I post free arts activities for my students, community, teacher friends, and everyone who wants to do arts. However I always focus on the content, and was not a very active part of making the website or much behind it. I work with an amazing team that was more active in the website/ blogging building area (and alllll the online, media and website details that drives me nuts!) while I was more active in the content, programs and big ideas area.

I hope to learn in this course how to be more tech friendly and use it for my online teaching, be a part of an online community with you, create a professional online presence, and declare a truce and maybe even peace with technology.

Looking forward to it! Anxiety and excitement are all blurred together – this class will make them into a colorful abstract!

Colorfully yours,

Maya
