Introducing My Learning Project
When this assignment was explained I was super excited about the possibilities of what I could learn! The hard part was trying to decide what I was going to focus on. I thought about working on my cooking skills, learning to knit or crochet, or braiding my hair. Ultimately, I decided to braid my hair because it is something I have always wanted to be able to do but always find myself frustrated and giving up. It has always been easier for me to walk upstairs and ask my mom to do it for me, however, as I am finishing up my education and preparing to move out I realized I wouldn’t be able to go and ask my mom to do it for me and figured that learning how to do this now would encourage me to persevere and try new strategies and techniques.
It’s not that I can’t braid at all, right now I can braid the bottom ends of my hair but it is very difficult and often has a mistake somewhere in the braid.
During my initial research, I found three different sources that stood out to me that I plan on using. I have decided I want to learn Dutch braids and French braids. The website that made these two types of braids seem interesting was How To Braid Hair: 7 Types You Can Learn At Home. I also found a WikiHow page with step-by-step instructions on how to do single and double French braids in hair. The last website I found that stood out to me as helpful was a YouTube video on How to Dutch Braid. These are going to be my initial sources to help me move through this project. But I will also be looking for more as I go through to help me improve my skills. By the end, I hope to be able to braid my own hair without it being a frustrating task.
Hi Stella,
Your learning project is so exciting! I’m looking forward to seeing your progress throughout the class and maybe learning a new braid from you.
