All About Family!
I finally figured out a concrete idea of what I would like to do for my final learning project! Have you ever seen those videos of people interpreting at a concert? Like this daughter signing the words for her dad! I am aiming to do this to combine my passion for music with this project! I have even picked a song. Right now, my favourite song I feel I can relate to is Vienna by Billy Joel. It reminds me to slow down and that I can’t put too much pressure on myself. The song itself is a fairly slow tempo so I think it should be not too hard to keep up! With this in mind, I need to get learning some signs! This week I am going to focus on family signs because I need to be able to sign a child for the first part of the song.
I found an article on signing words for family members. This was not the easiest way to learn these signs because it was just pictures rather than a video, or even an explanation along with the pictures. After looking at this, I still had a few questions, so I looked for a video with some demonstrations. I found a great video on a channel called ASL THAT. He went through the signs slowly, and it helped me to understand them! I then used this website to learn how to sign the word child. Something interested I learned was that signs for female family members are at the chin, and signs for male family members are at the forehead!
In the spirit of family, I also did sign language along to a scene of one of my favourite movies. I had seen people do this scene from Lilo and Stitch on TikTok before, and knew I had to try! Lilo and Stitch is my favourite Disney movie and never fails to make me feel better when I am down. I was able to learn this pretty quickly, and I thought it tied in nicely with learning family signs this week.
As always, check out my video and leave your thoughts down below!
