My high school experiences include:
- Empowered Youth Era
- As a member of the Empowered Youth Era, I worked at various local weddings, conventions, and events to raise money to support struggling students. Students could anonymously approach the organization for help with things such as lunch money, gym clothes, grad dresses/suits, field trip expenses, and various other things. All of these things can become expensive, and not every student can afford them. Nobody, including all the student volunteers and most of the adult volunteers, knew who approached the organization for help, so it was very confidential.
- Students Making a Difference
- Students Making a Difference is a mental health initiative. We made kindness cards which were distributed at random in all students’ lockers. These kindness cards could have been the only kind words someone heard all day, and we wanted to improve spirits in the school environment. Further, we created a motivational board covered in sticky notes which students were free to take with them if needed. We planned to create a random acts of kindness board as well where students could pick out a card with a random act of kindness written on it for them to do for someone; however, Covid-19 interrupted these plans.
- Meals on Wheels
- I volunteered regularly to deliver lunches to the older residents in Rosetown.
- United Church Food Drive
- I went door to door to collect food to support the local food bank.
- Harvest Festival Craft Table
- Each year, we have a Harvest Festival, and I volunteer at the craft table. We have a different craft each year, and I supervise children and help them make their crafts.
