Hey everyone, welcome to my blog! I’m Grace Smyth, a third-year education student at the University of Regina. I am currently completing my pre-internship at Ruth M. Buck elementary school in the Regina Public School Division. I found my love for the classroom in the Philippines when I was volunteering as a teacher assistant in a kindergarten classroom. I have also been coaching figure skating for the Carlyle Figure Skating Club for over 6 years, which has provided me with a variety of informal teaching experiences. If I’m not at school or at the rink, you can probably find me listening to pop culture podcasts or walking my two-year-old Mastiff cross, Ajax.
During my time in the classroom, I have had very little experience with technology. In the past, I have been skeptical about integrating technology in the classroom due to the high amount of screen time students have access to outside of the classroom. The more I hear about different types of educational technology, the more I believe it is an important aspect of creating an inclusive environment. One of my goals for my three-week block is to incorporate technology into one or more of my lessons. I believe that EDTC300 will be helpful in providing me with the information I need to assist my students with the use of this technology and provide me with ideas for technology that can help create an inclusive classroom.
In addition to my lack of experience with technology, I am also unfamiliar with blogging. The only experience I have is reading food blogs before making a recipe! I am excited to blog each week and share what I have learned through my classes and in my pre-internship. I am hoping that I can keep my blog going after this class and share classroom experiences I have during my internship.
Feel free to follow my Twitter to keep up with my learning journey!
