Hello! I’m Inemesit Ekaette and here are some things about me:

  • I’m currently in my second-year BEAD program preK- 5.
  • I have my first degree in Agricultural Economics and Extension.
  • I’m married with three kids.
  • I am a Nigerian.
  • I love to sing a lot, play a lot, and hang out with friends and family.
  • There is something really special about me – I am a leap-year baby, so you may choose to refer to me as a leapling, leapette, leapster, and leaper.

 My experience with Educational technology

According to Wikipedia, Educational technology (commonly abbreviated as edutech or edtech) is the combined use of computer hardware, software, and educational theory and practice to facilitate learning.

Growing up in the 1980s/1990s in Nigeria, with little or no exposure to technology, learning in my elementary years was more of interaction between the teacher and students. It’s funny to think that there was a computer lab in my elementary school which the students never operated. I remember having to draw and label a computer by just staring at it. In my high school, it got better when we had to use desktop computers in the computer lab to learn how to type. I enrolled in the computer class which was more of theory than practical. At least I could finally power on the computer and attempt typing with it via Word document.  Meanwhile, having a cell phone was prohibited in my school.

There was an evolution in my University. It was vital to have your laptop for academic purposes. I had a cell phone and was able to learn more about the use of technology. I could explore and do more of the practicals on my own.  Now, I can say that I’ve benefitted massively from the use of technology with just a few highlights:

  • Learning has been more engaging and interactive.
  • I never have to memorize facts.
  • It has also enhanced my cognitive abilities.
  • I can explore numerous tools and resources.

My thoughts on blogging?

I always thought blogging was all about bringing to the public the thoughts you have in your head and I didn’t see a reason why I would want the world to know what I’m thinking so I never imagined having a blog. Recently, I realized there’s so much more to blogging. It develops thinking and creativity and enhances writing and communication skills. Blogging helps to promote the expression of self less formally. Though I’m new at blogging, I feel super excited about being a blogger.

    Hi Inemesit!
I decided to scroll back to some of the first posts that were made after our course started to get to know a little more about others!
Thank you for sharing some fun facts about you. I also have three kids, but I’m not a leap year baby. You must be excited to get to celebrate an actual birthday this year! I went to school with a guy whose birthday landed on February 29 and although I thought it was pretty cool, I also thought it would be quite odd to only celebrate your “real” birthday every four years!
I feel like I had some misconceptions about blogging as well, but have really started to enjoy writing my weekly posts for this class. I hope you continue to enjoy your blogging journey!

      Hi Chantelle!
It’s nice knowing we share some things in common. As much as I don’t feel good about not having my exact birthdays every year, I do feel special to be different. I haven’t met anyone who shares the same birthdate as myself just yet but I’m so excited to hear about your schoolmate.
Thanks, Chantelle! I appreciate your comment.
