ChatGPT in the Classroom
I think AI is something that is interesting and could be a great resource in classrooms. I want to specifically take a look at ChatGPT and how it could be used in classrooms. I think there are many uses for teachers. Firstly, teachers could use it to help write assignments. It could make it sound more professional and come across better. It could also be used to create rubrics. I made a rubric using it and I was very surprised how well it did. I just adjusted a few words in simpler terms and other than that it was perfect. I think teachers could also use this to gain ideas for lessons. Instead of repeating lessons every year, it would be cool to switch things up and get fresh ideas which this cite could help with.
I think this would also be a good resource for students to use. I would have students use it to generate ideas for their assignments but not for it to do the assignments. Students could write in the bar “Give me ideas for ….” and that could help get them started incase they are stumped and don’t have ideas.
For ethical reasons, I do not think ChatGPT should be used without making adjustments or your won ideas. I think it is a good idea if you give it the idea to make something and you can adapt it and make changes of your own. As a teacher I feel we have more flexibility to adapt things from this without making as many adjustments as students should. I think for students they can get ideas from this source but they can’t have it do their work for them. Apart of being a student is learning the process of writing and doing those things without the help of AI.
Hi Kelsey,
I often use chatGPT to help prompt me in my writing by giving me ideas, so I think that would be an awesome tool for students. I am excited to try using AI in my pre-internship, I haven’t taking it yet, so I do not have much lesson plan or rubric making experience, but I can’t wait to try this useful tool!

Hey Kelsey,
I agree with you! Using AIs for spicing things you’ve used before or finding inspiration for creativity seems to be a great way to use them! I will admit that last semester when I first heard about ChatGPT, I definitely used it to fast-track an assignment that was absolutely going to take more time out of my already busy student/work/parent life, and I loved it!! I did feel that I needed to use it to refine searching instead of copying and pasting – in other words, I let it do the hard work, and then I reworded and took out parts that were not necessary!
I feel like understanding that our students’ lives will also be busy and allowing them the opportunity to use this (like I had!) as an option should be okay… so long as it is being used for research and not plagiarism. By the time I am a teacher, I will better understand how to use these AIs as tools in the classroom, but I know that I will not reprimand them for improper use if I have not ensured that they have the know-how..
Seems like you might share the same opinion on the matter 🙂
