Cracking the Code: Navigating the World of Technology

We live in an age where technology intertwines with every part of our lives (at least in my life..), Although I feel it is essential to evaluate my tech habits, I have not taken the time to do so. This could be because I rely so heavily on different forms of technology and I do not want to have to ‘take a break’ from them. With that being said, I invite you to join me as I dive into the subtle art of balancing my digital life while discovering how my tech habits impact my daily routines and personal well-being.

My Digital Hangouts: Unveiling My Most Frequently Used Platforms

Whether it be academic or social in nature, I have found that I have my personal social media ‘go-tos’, as I feel we all do. In my daily life, I have three different technology categories:

    1. School,
    1. Work,
    • I have found that in my professional work routine as an exercise therapist/personal trainer, I spend a lot of my time with Excel, Google Docs, Instagram, Simple Set (exercise program development site), and Practice Perfect (booking for patients). As well as many different music sites during any class I may teach.
    1. Personal
    • When I shift my focus to my personal life, I rely heavily on Instagram, Spotify, Crave/Netflix (etc.), Tiktok and so many more. Honestly, I use these resources way too frequently, commonly playing a movie/show or music in the background of anything I do at home.

Tools for Success: Navigating the Sea of Productivity Apps

Staying organized and productive amid the chaos of my life is no small task. For organization, I have a more ‘old school’ approach, by having physical calendars, to-do lists, weekly schedules, and handwritten/printed notes. I’m not sure what it is, but the act of physically writing things down, checking them off, or highlighting them increased my likelihood of remembering it! I want to begin trying new apps/techniques for productivity, I believe this course is the perfect tool to help me find beneficial technology sources for productivity.

    Distraction Dilemmas….

Acknowledging my tech-related distractions is a crucial step towards finding solutions to benefit my productivity. As I previously mentioned, a lot of my habits I do not want to ‘fix’, but…. For the sake of properly evaluating my tech habits, I took the time to notice the impact of all the resources I use! Personally, social media often lures me into what feels like a time-consuming vortex. To be honest, I am guilty of not having proper plans/resources that help to avoid forms of distraction, but that is what I am hoping to find in this journey. As a woman with ADHD, (that was not diagnosed until recently, and unmedicated) some of these habits I have developed throughout my entire life. One of these behaviors is my unintentional avoidance of tasks, also commonly known as procrastination. Which ultimately results in me dedicating every ounce of myself to this task as I complete it last minute. Another example is my need for background noise while I cook, clean, or complete work. I feel extremely uncomfortable with silence while I work, and because of this, I have developed the habit of playing music, podcasts, movies, etc. while I am working on something.

To combat this, I have researched many strategies (that I have recently tried), like using timers during dedicated working hours and creating priority lists of tasks that require my attention first. I have also begun using educational resources as my ‘background noise’, an example would be anything I need to watch or read for classes. These may seem simple, but they have been critical in reclaiming control over my time and attention.

P.S. If you’re looking for details on student inattention and distractibility in a world of technology take a look at American Psychological Association’s take on it. They provide information on behaviors to watch for, things to do as teachers, and elaborate on when to act as an educator!

Striking a Balance: Nurturing a Healthy Relationship with Technology

I have discovered that maintaining a healthy balance between screen time for academic purposes and personal well-being demands intentional efforts. Implementing new, simple tasks has helped prevent burnout and dedicate my attention to relevant tasks for a reasonable time. Additionally, I have tried to establish designated tech-free time during mealtimes and before bedtime to try and create a healthier relationship with technology and promote overall well-being. (honestly, it has been extremely difficult…)

Overall, understanding and reflecting on our daily tech habits is crucial. By identifying the platforms that dominate our lives, utilizing productivity tools, addressing distractions, and establishing boundaries, we can cultivate a better relationship with technology. This journey has allowed me to harness (some…) the power of technology for academic success while ensuring that my personal well-being remains a top priority.

“Tying” My Way to Success: An Introduction to My Macramé Learning Project

Over my Christmas vacation, I was given a macramé kit in a gift exchange with my family. This was a form of art that I always enjoyed looking at and wished that I could do! However, I never seemed to dive into trying it. My first-ever macramé trial was one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever had. The knots wouldn’t tie, the photos were confusing, and it just didn’t look right. There were multiple times I had to put it away and take a break to not get irritated with a bunch of strings. Since then I have not touched the kit… Although this is something I have always wanted to learn, I found myself extremely irritated with how it would not cooperate with me!

This learning project came along at what I believe is a perfect time. One of my dogs suffered a double ACL tear at the age of five months old, this went undiagnosed for over a year. He has now been getting physical therapy for a couple of months in an attempt to avoid surgery, but that does not seem to be an option. The cost here in Saskatoon is just over $10,000 to fix both legs, but I was able to find someone in Edmonton who will Go Fund me QR code for help for dogs knee surgeryfix both for around $6,000. All of this veterinary research was occurring at the time we were discussing our learning projects. At this time I convinced myself to restart my macramé journey! With the goal of becoming skilled enough to sell products to raise funds for my dog’s surgery! I know that with this motivation I will be able to dedicate time and significant effort to learning how to excel at a skill I have wanted to learn for a long time.

To get started I did some research on different styles of macramé and what supplies are required for each style. As I learned more I decided to start with the most simple approach I could find, making keychains. This will hopefully help me get comfortable with different styled knots, patterns, and designs before diving into more complex things. I ordered some supplies My Michaels haul of suppliesfrom Michaels and began to complete my first couple of keychain styles. With the help of a fantastic blog I found, I was able to watch videos, look at photos, and view inspirational designs! I was able to create three keychains in different styles! (not my best work, but it was my first attempt and it shows me where I am in my learning journey). This time around I truly enjoyed the process, I got to destress and focus on this one task.

I plan to complete around six keychains of different styles to teach myself different patterns. Once I complete those, (only if I feel comfortable) I will begin working on a small wall-hanging piece. I hope that after each project I can progress into a slightly more complicated design. I have found a few blog resources to help with designs, such as this one. I am looking forward to progressing the difficulty as I learn more, and work into more complicated designs!

Wish me luck on this new journey!

The Making of an Educator: A Story All About Me and My Life

Hello! I’m Kendra Saworski, and I am a first-year Bachelor of Elementary Education After Degree Student. I completed my first degree this past year in a Bachelor of Health and Physical Education, where I majored in Physical Literacy. I originally had intended to become a Physiotherapist. As a child I found myself captivated by the world of physical rehabilitation. It was during my degree, where I took the vast majority of my courses in the education program (all with a physical education focus) that my plans for my life had shifted. During that time I found I had become deeply passionate about teaching. I found I had completely changed every plan or idea I had arranged in my mind. I now find myself beginning this new journey and I truly am excited to learn new things, expand on my current knowledge, and dive into the world of Elementary Education! Husband and wife smiling at eachother

I am a recent newlywed and I love the ability to live life with my person! I am also a dog mom to two amazing Pitbull puppies who are almost 2 (Apollo) and 7 months old (Zeus), and they keep my life crazy busy. The more you get to know me, the more I talk about my dogs. My life consists of training for competitive rally obedience with my youngest dog, physical therapy for my oldest (for double ACL tears in his back legs), school, and work! I currently work as an Exercise Therapist at a physiotherapy clinic, and a Personal Trainer for F45 Lakewood in Saskatoon, while I complete my schooling. I have loved working at F45 (it’s been 4 years), the group fitness setting has infectious levels of energy, and I find being able to help people develop a love for personal wellness is inspiring. Although I would love to start working in a school setting!

It is my goal to incorporate my knowledge of fundamental skills and movement into my teaching to help students become active, confident individuals! Especially, with the hope of developing their love for learning.Girl in mountains
