Week 3
In the classroom since it is a grade one and two split class, the teacher has to use different ways of teaching to educate all of the students. In the last few weeks, I have been in the classroom I have got to observe the guided reading program and see all the different reading and writing levels of the students in the classroom. With the different reading and writing levels of the students, the teacher has to use different techniques to teach such as using different materials, and different explanations for the students. The teacher also promotes creativity with her students, by picking what they want to write about during their writing period and also on other assignments. One assignment particularly, the students are learning about life cycles and get to make up an animal of their choice, choose its environment, name it, and colour it however they would like. I really enjoyed seeing the kids’ creative side, and how excited they were to have creative freedom. The major support in the classroom for teachers at this school is the Educational Assistants. In this school, there are only two EA’s so their help in the classroom is so valuable and is heavily relied upon to make sure each child is getting the help they need, especially if the teacher is working with a select group of students on something specific.
