My knowledge about indigenous people began back in Grade 5
After residential schools where not many were left alive
The physical and emotional damage was already done
Where many like Joseph never saw the sun
Acknowledging the past is the most important thing we can do
As future educators and pass the knowledge through
Much like Dr.Fatima said education has been colonized
Therefore in behalf of all future teachers I apologize
This is just the beginning the curriculum will change
Since they’re leaving out true Canadian history and it’s kinda strange
Canada is a first world multicultural country so they said
Yet their inhabiters are left in the streets, with the lowest economy step closer to being dead
I promise we will learn about the treaty rights for many years to come
Because a new generation has begun
