My Educational Philosophy

As a future educator, my beliefs about the classroom and what I hope to spread into my own one day are very important to the future of my children. To me, education is more than just teaching curriculum, but to influence children’s lives in a positive way, and help them to grow and aspire in ways others in their lives may not be able to help with. As educators, we are front line workers, seeing children from all backgrounds come into our classroom working to better themselves and learn new things, and I believe it to be one of the most rewarding careers someone can have.

My beliefs about education lie strongly in movement and inquiry based learning, because of the fact that I always find children to learn best through engagement, and also because of my dance teaching background, where I constantly get to see children building and learning not just dance moves, but life skills, through my classes and movement learning. I believe us all to be musical and movement based creatures, and inputing this style of teaching into my own classroom is how I aspire my future to look like.

I also believe that relationships between students and between student and teacher are vital in learning. Building a warm, welcoming and loving community within your classroom is the key to student success and involvement, as we all feel more comfortable in an environment we are welcomed in. Taking time out of your day to have a conversation with each child in your classroom about things that aren’t school related, or show interest in their personal lives by asking them questions or supporting them at sports events, really begins to build that bridge between you being their teacher, and you becoming a role model adult they can look up to and learn from. In all my classroom experiences as well as my weekly dance classes, I have always made it one of my biggest priorities to build these relationships, and the results always show.

I hope for my future in education to be bright, insightful, filled of ups and downs and many learning experiences, and above all, rewarding.
