My Journey to Becoming a Teacher

Piano? Sounds Easy…

For my Learning Project I will be attempting to learn to play the piano. This is something I have always wished I would have done when I was a child, so my options were to find a time machine and go back to my childhood and enrol in piano lessons OR crack my knuckles and get to work. The timing is perfect as my daughter has also begun taking piano lessons and I figure, why not join her on the journey of becoming a pianist. I will be using the same workbook as my daughter and tracking my progress on this blog. She doesn’t know it yet, but lets the games begin!

I will be contributing 40 hours over the next 12 weeks into learning the piano and documenting my progression. While I have ZERO experience with the piano and besides a cup of coffee playing guitar as a child, my experience with music is very elementary to say the least. Still, I must temper my expectations as reality is this will likely be a long process. But still! How I see myself playing the piano versus how I actually sound playing the piano I am sure will be completely different things. However, let the journey begin!

Hi Byron! That is amazing that you are learning to play the piano for the #LearningProject and that you can learn alongside your daughter too. Do you have experience playing any other instruments? I started piano lessons when I was five years old and played for about ten years. Playing the piano is an amazing experience and really helped me in other areas of school like math and band! Giving your daughter the opportunity to play the piano is wonderful and she will thank you some day! You may feel like giving up, however, just keep playing! Good luck!

Hey Ashlyn, thanks for the comment. My musical background it pretty limited, however, I am really looking forward to seeing where this takes me. I am even more excited to watch my daughter learn a new skill such as the piano. Thanks again for the comment.

    Hello Bryon,
Having a companion to work with is always a great idea. I had never taken piano lessons as a child either and it is something that I regret although I am not musically or artistically gifted what-so-ever.
I look forward to watching your learning process during this project!
    Good luck!

Hi Brittney, I can relate to your experience as well as I too did not have much of a musical experience as a child. Minus a couple failed years playing guitar it was non-existent. With that said, I am excited to see how much I can learn in the next few months.

    Hi Byron,
I am very excited that you chose to learn how to play the piano for your learning project. I took piano lessons for eight years, and still find myself sitting at the piano and playing each time I go back home! The book you are using looks like one of the ones I used as a beginner, and it is a great resource! If you need any help throughout your learning project, feel free to let me know and ill do my best to help you out! I can’t wait to see where your journey brings you.
