Learning How to Cook Steak!

Learning How to Cook Steak!

Process:

For this weeks learning project post I decided to make steak, potatoes, and salad for my family. I used the an online resource called How to Grill Steak, Step by Step, along with a home recipe for reference. Before I started to cook I went to the store and bought steak, lettuce, and baby potatoes. I then began preparing my steak by seasoning and marinating it for 3 hours. Next I turned on the barbecue and placed the steak on it to cook, flipping it when needed. While the steak was cooking, I prepared baby potatoes by washing, slicing, and packaging them in tinfoil with butter and onions for the barbecue. I then periodically checked the steaks until it was cooked to 160 degrees Fahrenheit. I cooked my potatoes for around 30 minutes before they were done. After taking the steaks and potatoes off the barbecue, I chopped up lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions. Then I added croutons and caesar dressing to complete my salad I then proceeded to set up the table with cutlery and serve my family.

Results:

My steak turned out well! I was worried that I was going to overcook the meat but using a meat thermometer to check the temperature helped me determine when the steak was done. One thing I messed up while cooking was I added too much caesar dressing to my salad causing it to taste a bit too strong. Overall I am happy that my family enjoyed the meal (my Dad had 2 servings!) and that I now know how to cook steak for myself. I look forward to next weeks post as I continue to challenge myself and my cooking abilities!
