The activities are participated in at the 2021 Treaty 4 Gathering (online/virtual) were:
-Escape Room
-Michael Lonechild
-Tipi Tour and Building a Tipi
-Explored the language apps (Cree)
-K2 Crosstraining Treaty 4 Movement Challenge (with my kids)
-Plasticine Art Tutorial (again with the kids)
-Treaty Entanglements with Sara Solvey
Further description of the activities I enjoyed:
-I Had a lot of fun interacting with the various activities and invited my children to take part in a few of them too.
-I was blown away at the time, effort, and knowledge it takes to build a Tipi…I thought house renovations were tough. This would be a good video for a family unit, treaty Ed., exploring cultures, and/or history.
-I was both challenged and encouraged by Sara Solvey’s presentation (a good one for preinterns going into the field). I was challenged because as a future educator I must be aware of my attitude and biases about Treaty Education, as they will predict my actions, inclusions, and pedagogy in the classroom when teaching Treaty Ed., all of which will have detrimental effects on continuing the myths and misinformation about our history, Treaties, and Indigenous peoples. I was encouraged by Sara’s simplistic ways of making Treaty Education practical and a priority in our pedagogy and curriculum, as it is crucial in our journey towards reconciliation, social justice, and to our future as Canadians.
-Michael Lonechild is an amazing and talented self taught artist. I enjoyed his story and watching him paint. This would be a good resource in various subjects (for example: identity in ELA, local artist in Art, history, etc.)
-The FHQTC language app will definitely be something I use as a resource in the future. It is interactive, fun, and easy to use. A good resource in any grade to learn various Aboriginal Treaty 4 languages.
-Had so much fun in the escape room and playing with the plasticine with my kiddos. The escape room could be a different and creative way to do a summative assessment in the classroom, rather than a typical test. And the plasticine, well art is always fun, so why not try something new with this resource.
-As for the K2 Crosstraining…?want a workout that really gets your blood and sweat flowing, here you go! I recommend only using a few parts at a time, maybe for brain breaks, rather than the whole workout at once with students.
Hope we meet each other at an in-person T4Gathering, probably with your own class.
