ACRO YOGA!

First off, I’d like to start by giving a thank you shout out to my voters this week! You guys are the best!

To be completely honest, I was a little worried this would happen. The biggest challenge I was worried about facing with this type of yoga was having to convince my partner to perform acro yoga with me. Luckily, he said yes! (I may have used a little bit of a guilt trip because it’s for school)

But we actually had SO much fun!

I found a great resource this week and was so happy with how I was able to learn from it! Yoga journal has so far been the most beneficial website that I have found and was able to learn from without having to search for a secondary resource! Within the article, it provided numerous links to learn all about acro yoga. The first link I clicked on taught me all about the background information behind acro yoga and why it is practiced. The next link within the article, Acro Yoga 101, provided me 6 beginner acro yoga poses, with pictures to learn from while providing great detail explaining the roles of each partner, the base and the flyer. The base is supposed to be the larger partner who does most of the supporting (my boyfriend Dillon took on the base role) for the flyer (I was the flyer). I have come to realize that pictures are absolutely necessary for me when trying to learn yoga through written instructions, other wise I have no clue if I am performing the poses correctly. Not only did this resource provide instructions and an “alignment tip” for more stability and success performing the poses, but it also provided a link to a beginner sequence video that I found to be extremely beneficial to reference to make sure we were following the written instructions properly. This has been the first time I haven’t had to go back to YouTube to find a yoga sequence to reference or follow along with! YAY!

Yoga Journal is hands down the best resource I have used so far for my learning project

Check out our acro yoga!

The Plank on Plank pose
The Base Test pose- second hardest to perform
The Plank Press pose

The bow pose was by far the hardest pose to do so we decided to make a video of it showing how we performed it. Please enjoy our extreme beginner version of the bow pose!

I used WeVideo to create this quick clip of us performing the bow pose

I would like to point out that I am smiling SO hard in every picture. Just goes to show how much I enjoyed this weeks acro yoga!

Question for my followers:

How else would you like me to show my progress for my learning project?

Holy cow Alexandra! You guys are amazing! That looks so challenging, but you two pulled it off beautifully. Good on you for challenging yourself with this. It looks like you were having so much fun with Acro Yoga 🙂 . Do you think you two will keep trying this type of practice going forward? It seems like a great thing to do with your partner. Keep up the good work 🙂
    Talk to you soon,
    Ian

Hi Ian, Thank you so much! I might give acro yoga another shot. The resource I used suggested we have a spotter near by just in case the flyer was to fall and we don’t have anyone else in our household to help out. I think it would be fun to do it again and I would love to but I am not sure how much my partner liked it as most of the work was on him lol. I would love to see you try out some acro yoga in your yoga journey! Thanks for checking out my blog!

Oh my goodness! You two make these poses look so easy and fun! As for your question, I personally feel like pictures and videos are the best way to sort of document learning! I am not 100% sure what things you have all tried so far but you could try a podcast instead of typing out your info before the picture or you could also try to do a time-lapse video if you haven’t already! Another suggestion would be using Animoto to make a video, I tried it for last week’s blog and it was very easy to use!

    • Alexandra Crammond

Hey Kassia thanks so much for your suggestions! I have used quite a few pictures and videos and have fun including them for my blogs and plan to continue. I have yet to check out Animoto to make a video but I am interested in checking it out, so maybe stay tuned for next week! I have already done a time-lapse but I will definitely consider trying a podcast within the last few weeks of our learning projects. There have been so many great reviews about Anchor so that would be the podcast tool I will check out. Thanks again for checking out my blog and all your great suggestions, I really appreciate it!

Oh my goodness, I loved this blog post. The last video at the end had me cheering for you and your partner. Well done! That looked so tricky, but you make it look flawless. Also, I love how much you and your partner are smiling and laughing at the end. So awesome you have brought a school project into your own personal relationship. I know you are focusing on physical yoga, but have you ever tried or heard of “laughter yoga”? We did it once in high school for a class and it was so, so, so fun!

    • Alexandra Crammond

Aw thank you so much Haley! It really was a fun experience for the both of us. I have not heard of laughter yoga but I am definitely interested. It is something I will consider looking into for the next few weeks of our learning projects. Thanks so much for the suggestion and checking out my blog!
