When I first began my studies to become and educator, I did not know I would be entering a classroom setting as fast as I did. I then realized it was the best way to observe and learn about a classroom setting. Seeing really is believing and I am extremely grateful for the chance I was given. It opened up my eyes and really set my thoughts in stone as to whether or not I wanted to continue my studies to become a teacher. There are many words to describe my field work that I was able to do with my grade 2-3 class. I think one of the most important words that come to mind is unbelievable. The reason I say that is because my experience with the kids every Tuesday afternoon was nothing short of unbelievable. From the moment I stepped foot into the school, I felt like I was at a home away from home. It was a feeling I have not felt in a long time. From the principal to the teachers to the students, I was brought in and welcomed with open arms.

It was a terrible day when I learnt I was unable to return to the classroom due to the calls of isolation. One of the reasons I took the news hard was because of the relationships I build. I am very proud to have made so many relationships within the school in the short time I was there. I feel I was able to connect with the atmosphere that was provided and of course the students as well. These types of relationships hold a special place in my heart. They were built in a short time, but they felt like they had been strong for years, and just like that they were taken away from me. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth, but also makes me thankful for the opportunity I was given.

Seeing the reaction of the students when I would get to the classroom brightened up my day like none other. It made me think about my future and how badly I want to get to where I feel I am destined to be. I want to be that bright spot of students’ lives, I want to go to work every day and not treat it like work. Be happy with what I do and who I am around every day. Not only do I want to be the best version of myself for the students. I want to get the best out of my students so they can be all they can be and more.
