What are your family traditions around being inviting and hospitable?

My family doesn’t usually host many guests. When we do have guests over it is usually to celebrate a holiday or a special occasion. We always try to make our guests feel at home by offering them a drink or a snack, usually nachos and salsa or crackers with cheese. Whether our guest is a family member or a friend we always tend to welcome them into our home the same way. Usually the only people who come to my house is already close with everyone in my family.

Can you think of examples of ways in which you felt your school, classroom and teachers were inviting and hospitable to you and your cultures / identities?

I think my school was as welcoming as possible. Especially with students making a transition to new schools. When I was on the SRC we had a welcome day for the grade nines where we show them around the school and introduce them to all the teachers. Not all teachers will welcome students into their classroom the same. I remember not feeling as welcomed in some classrooms compared to others, but I believe all teachers make an attempt to embrace everyone equally. A way that teachers made me feel welcomed in their class was by getting to know my name and what I take interest in.
